Preparations

Postby molle on 07 Aug 2008, 09:38

Hello, it's been a while since I've written, but have checked in almost daily on this forum. Well, I should have started my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela this april, but had an injury so I had to prospone  . But 12 days from now I'll be leaving for St.J.P.D.P :D . I prepare by walking with my backpack 3 hours daily, perhaps not enough, still it seams to be just the right amount of training-time for me. Ok, then I'm going to the gym 4 times a week ( well I do that anyway, Camino or not)where I'm doing strengthtraining - especially legs and back and then using the "running-machine"(or whats the name?) walking uphill, since it's not that hilly around the city I live in. And last but not least, doing lots and lots of stretching-exercises, so this time around I hope to avoid injuries ( 7-9-13, knock 3 times under the table  ). Looking forward to a wonderful experience. Molle :D

Buen camino Molle!
It was cold in April - with snows and lots of rain and mud. :(
Many albergues only open from May - so you will have lots of choices now. :P
You don't need winter clothes in August or September so your backpack should be lighter. :?
(On a long journey even a straw weighs heavy. Spanish proverb)
The weather will be kind to you in late August and September. :D
Don't worry about your fitness, just take it slow and easy the first week and you will get fitter as you walk.
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. John Muir

Molle,

...For others, I just wrote Molle, that with the backpack walking every day and the fitness hours at the gym... it will be fine for the Camino... - Also the importance of being your own master of rythm and breaks....
Buen Camino

I'll take it easy, the first couple of days and I'll be taking it easy again and again along the camino, in fact I just might be taking it easy all my way to Santiago :D . Molle
