Starting from Bilbao or Santander- which route is nicer?

Postby hacklelisabeth on 28 Aug 2008, 14:01

Hello all,

I will be starting the camino del norte in beginning of September. A friend of mine will be with me for 10 days and we are wondering if we shall start walking from Bilbao or Santander.

I would like to have my fried enjoy the more beautiful route as she has just little time.

What would be your recommendation for nicer landscape: starting from Bilbao or Santander ?

Many thanks for your advice.

Hello Elisabeth

I walked the Camino del Norte in June and it was great. It's difficult to say which one is most beautiful route because they're both nice. But if I have to pick one route I would say from Bilbao. However, the walk in Bilbao city isn't that nice so I would suggest that you take the Bilbao metro to Portugalete and start from there.

Best wishes

Fredrik
