Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela

Camino Primitivo is around 350 km. From Oviedo to Santiago de Compostela.

It's the original camino, at least 200 years before the French way was free from the Moors.

It takes around 12-14 days. It's a mountainous region, but the view is beautiful. Albergues usually have 6-20 beds but you usually only get 2-4 people at a time.

Thanks for sharing your blog with us. I'm hoping to walk the Primitivo one day.

The "New Spain" publication reports that the Asturian government will repair and refurbish 107 kilometers of the Primitive Camino to make the route more pilgrims-friendly. New Camino signals, potable water fountains, rest spots and sanitation facilities will be installed in the seven Camino stages from La Espina to El Acebo. The work is expected to be completed by June 1st., as well as the new albergues in Tineo, Aviles and Salas.Also, the construction of a new albergue in Lena has been approved.

Yes XM, I've just completed my Camino Primitivo in April (13 days, 1 day less than the what's in the guide).

And thanks for the info about the albergue sillydoll.

The albergue are actually quite nice. The problem with them is the location (most of them are in places without bar, restaurants or provisions). They are currently building new ones in bigger towns.

Actually my biggest problem is in Galacia. There are no albergue for the stop after Lugo and before Melide (joining the French Way). The hospitalero in Lugo suggests heading to Palas del Rei instead (35.5 km). I missed the detour and after following the markers ended up in Melide instead (44 km at least) after a 11 hour walk! That's how I ended 1 day earlier...

The weather was surpringly good. With the exception of rain when I first arrived in Oviedo, it was dry all the way to Santiago de Compostela.

One thing that is a guaranteed in this mountainous route is the mist in the morning. But the beauty of the landscape when you climbed above the mist is truely priceless.

I hear u, the C Primitvo is a mighty nice alternative/compliment to the CF (or is it the other way around? ).
